Hello!
I'm new in Grenoble too so it's difficult for me to choose a place to hang out. So, as many people I think you like to do shopping. I know only two places.
The first is "Victor Hugo" which is the Grenoble's downtown. All shops are in streets. There are pubs, restaurants, and sometimes cultural activities!
The second is "Grand'Place". It's the mall of Grenoble! It is near to "Pole Sud" (Icerink) and "Alpexpo" (Exhibition hall).
At the top, you can see the tramway's plan. Victor Hugo, and Grand'Place are in a ring. Victor Hugo is in the north of Grenoble. Line A and B stop at this station!
For Grand'Place it's only the line A in the south of Grenoble (Villeneuve).
I prefer the first for some reasons:
-You are in the street, and the atmosphere is better. Even if it's too late, there are the christmas market during december (important for the next year!).
-To take the most of the sun!
-When you come out of shops, you can go to a pub for drink coffee, eat crêpe, or smoke ane cigaret!
Hoping you'll love it!
P.S:
I done a mistake: as said Thomas, I forgot the "Caserne de Bonne". For go to this mall, you must stop at Gustave Rivet or Foch-Ferrié (Line C on the tramway). It's a new mall built according to the principles of sustainable development. I tried this mall after see the message of Thomas and it's my favourite place for do shopping because it's a beautiful place. I done a new ring on the map whish show where is the mall.
